If you are considering buying a refrigerator with a chilled water supply, before making your final choice, take a look at the type of filtration system it has. GE, Hotpoint and Kenmore are all using the GE Smartwater MWF filtration systems to purify their drinking water from harmful chemicals. This is because they all rely on the excellent quality that the GE system provides. Perhaps you already have a brand picked out that does not use the GE Smartwater MWF system. Try to stay prudent in changing out the filters. Otherwise, you risk subjecting your family to unsafe drinking water. When it’s time to replace them, you just need to unscrew the old one out and replace it with the new one. No tools are required here.
When shopping for replacement filters, it is quickest and easiest to look online and you will see cheaper alternatives than the true GE Smartwater replacements. It is personal choice whether you think they are as good, but generally, you get what you pay for and you have no way of knowing how much and what types of chemicals the cheap one would remove, or how long they would last.
Might I suggest that you think about buying the filters online, instead of driving about town looking for the better deal? You will be able to shop several stores quickly and a lot more easily than if you were looking locally for them.
