The fan makes a little noise but overall it has worked well for us. I like that it has the temperature adjustment on top and the fan is on the top.
You must constantly keep an eye on the progress of dehydrating your food so as not to under- or over-dehydrate. It is best to consult the instruction booklet that comes with the unit as to the approximate times and set a separate timer. It works great and makes as much noise as a small fan. I don’t think this is going to take all night as I feared. I did rotate the trays at the 2 hour mark but not so much because I had to, but because it’s what I’m used to and the top tray did look a smidge drier than the bottom. My wife and I love the Nesco FD-75PR; it does everything it is supposed to do. One thing we learned, the 5 trays that come with it are not enough.
I filled all 5 trays this way. I just ordered some of Nesco’s hot and spicy seasoning to try out. Also when dehydrating onions or garlic, it’s best to do it outside or in the garage, as the scent can be overpowering indoors. When drying apples or potatoes, soak them in lemon water first to prevent browning. One thing you should take note of – the trays ARE dishwasher safe, but only if you turn off the heated drying cycle of your dishwasher! Otherwise the heat from the drying cycle will deform and not fit together properly anymore. I have one of those little outlet adapters to turn the thing off when I want. I couldn’t be happier with this model.
And being able to add racks is very convenient. With the forced air system, I found that no matter where the meat was located (bottom, middle or top racks) it dried at the same rate, ensuring that all the meat was ready at the same time. I would recommend this product to anyone who makes their own jerky. It does the job evenly and in a reasonable time. I’ve made a couple of different things in it and all of them took less time than I thought they would. This is my first dehydrator, and I find it simple to use.
So, she told me to send the “head” back and they would replace it. I asked how long the exchange would take and she said given that I was in Indiana and she in Wisconsin, the turnaround should be a matter of days.
It is tasty and easier. I recommend putting wax paper in between each slice which makes it a bit more trouble but is worth it.
I feel like no matter how I try, I always miss a few food pieces. I’m not sure whether the trays are dishwasher-safe or not, so I just hand-wash them.
It does have one minor flaw. auto glass replacement cost.
