Does Not Work Right – Raw Food Dehydrator Critique
I genuinely think that if the timer issue were solved, it would make a difference, although it is still frustrating that the cooking times are so unpredictable. I’m considering getting a timer for the kitchen outlet, the kind that you can use to keep your lights on when you’re out of town, and seeing if that helps any, but the noise might still be a bit of a block for me. I also find myself setting the temp lower on some things, if I know I’m going to be away all day and not be able to tend to the finished product as soon. When using 12 trays, I often rearrange the trays half way through, putting the top tray on the bottom, and continuing until the bottom tray is on top.
Six or more will give you shoe leather tough if that is what you like. The lack of a switch is not an issue; I did not see that much difference in rotating up the trays in the vertical stack.
I would highly recommend this unit. Great for drying fruits, vegetables, meats and even canned pastas like Spaghettios. So, bottom line, I really liked the FD-75PR but am heartbroken that it died so quickly. And, I am extremely disappointed that I didn’t get that replacement in a timely manner too. When I call I get the same nice lady and I ask when I will get my replacement. On Monday of last week it was “in the distribution center”. Unfortunately, those drying times are “approximate” and if this month’s batch of jerky is a little bit thicker than last month’s, that’s going to mean an extra hour of drying time – something you often won’t realize until you go to check and realize that the jerky just isn’t done yet. And when its morning and you have to get to work, you don’t have an hour to sit there waiting for the dehydrator to finish.
I have read on some different sites about some of the cons being, too noisy, no on/off switch. As for the noise, I thought it was extremely quiet, I think my dishwasher is much louder, it was on the kitchen counter and the noise was no bother at all. This is my first dehydrator and my impression is that it’s a good dehydrator for our needs: something cheap and functional for occasional use. It’s easy to handle, as it’s not too heavy to lift but not so light that the cats can push it off the counter.
It is easy to clean, compact, and gets the job done. On the downside, it is a little loud as the electric fan runs full out the whole time, but that is necessary for the process. The best part of having it is that when your potatoes and onions start to go bad, you can dry them and save them to cook with. And I love knowing that the fruits and jerky I give my family are clean, safe and have no added chemicals. I’ve done this two or three times when drying large batches of water-heavy things like tomatoes. I really like this dehydrator. I have used it to dry soaked nuts and I love that this machine has a variable temps. I look forward to using it for many other drying I am very happy with this NESCO Harvest FD-75PR Dehydrator. The Nesco FD-75PR 700-Watt Food Dehydrator was my first foray into food dehydration. I did apples, pears, peaches & pineapple first and they turned out quite good for a first attempt – much better than buying at the grocery store in little packages!
My husband is begging me to do jerky! Pawn Shop Guitar.
