Works Well, It’s Excellent – Excaliber Dehydrator Critique
I have one of those little outlet adapters to turn the thing off when I want. I couldn’t be happier with this model.
On Monday of this week it was “in Chicago” and I should receive it in the next day or so. I live 3 hours from the farthest part of Chicago and as of Thursday I have not received the replacement. It is powerful, and effective. I have used it a number of times and made some really good jerky and fruit leathers. The machine works quickly, and the efficient fan means you don’t have to keep shuffling the trays to get everything evenly dried. The temperature settings are nice too, since not everything needs the same amount of heat. Great fruit leather too. Haven’t tried jerky but the fruit has been amazing. Don’t worry about it not having a timer, unless you plan to leave the house for an extended period of time. There is not much difference in the food from one half hour to the next, so don’t worry if running to the store took a little longer than you planned. This is an excellent price; just make sure you get all your accessories at the same time because you will need them once you get going! I have to say I am impressed with this machine.
Current cost of power where I live is around 10 cents per kWh so this unit costs me a little over 4 cents per hour. If I run it 10 hours a week, I’m looking at around $1.82 per month.
Here’s why the Nesco dehydrator is so cool. The air circulation is amazing in the Nesco. I didn’t have to do any rotation and the jerky was done evenly throughout. The fan is quiet – like white noise and the unit puts off a little heat but only right around where it is sitting (where else is the air passing around the food at 160F going to go).
I gave it 5 stars because it is great. It does have one minor flaw. My dehydrator went into overtime at Christmas when I used it to make Beef Jerky, and Dog Treats for my family and friends! This machine gets the job done quickly. It is easy to clean, compact, and gets the job done. On the downside, it is a little loud as the electric fan runs full out the whole time, but that is necessary for the process.
This works perfectly for all of these items. I was prepared for drying times (about 1 1/2 days for bananas to become chips and crackers to harden). I’ve had it a month and have enjoyed apples, bananas (like CANDY!), carrots, papaya, hot peppers as well as sweet potatoes for the doggies. I just got this for a Christmas gift for my husband and son; they got it early as my husband got an 8 pint the last day of KY season.
Be prepared for salivating dogs that are unwilling to leave the kitchen and fantastic dehydrated food. windscreen replacement.
