Cheap And Effective Overall – Industrial Food Dehydrator Review

Also, it comes with a smaller grated tray that sits inside the real trays in order to keep small pieces from falling through the grate. It also has a couple fruit leather, yogurt trays which are solid instead of grated. They were such a hit (and I dried so many) that I even sold them to a local cafe. Everything I have dried has come out amazing. It makes food science all that more fun. Dehydrating seems to concentrate flavors. It had advertised features that suggested it would work faster and more efficiently than the “cheaper” models, including a fan to force heated air more uniformly through the drying trays without constant rotation, and a thermostat to set the temperature settings. Actual experience varied, however, as the unit did not seem to dehydrate the food contents any faster than the 120W RONCO convection dryer. It comes with five trays, as well as additional inserts for making fruit roll ups and mesh screens so that items don’t fall through the trays. You can add up to five additional trays.

So, bottom line, I really liked the FD-75PR but am heartbroken that it died so quickly. And, I am extremely disappointed that I didn’t get that replacement in a timely manner too.

You could get away without tray rotation in the Nesco, although I still do it. The Nesco is easily twice as fast at drying, maybe three times as fast, than the Ronco, although it still, of course, takes longer than you’d think.

You can use other spices that you like. I made meringue cookies, tossed in a few mini choc chips, made little dollops & set machine on 160 degrees; I couldn’t resist eating them warm-they tasted like smores. You have a high end toasted snack that makes a great Christmas gift along with the jerky & apple crisps. Also tried cinnamon & Splenda on the pecans, which was fantastic (reminded me of a $5 cone of pecans/cinnamon/sugar we bought in Branson at a show, but much healthier). Variable temp lets you dry delicate foods without harming nutrients. It dries contents fairly evenly from top to bottom of tray stack. I would buy again. I bought this to replace my Ronco model FD1005WHGEN 5-Tray Electric Food Dehydrator.

I’ve made a couple of different things in it and all of them took less time than I thought they would. This is my first dehydrator, and I find it simple to use. It can be kind of hard to hand wash, especially if you have nowhere to soak it. I find it helps to lay soaked, soapy rags over the trays for a while before washing. I recommend this for anyone who likes to cook by using intense flavors – I have used the dried tomatoes on salads, in sauces, casseroles, etc. It is worth it if you’re just doing tomatoes. I am happy with the product but wish it had a timer, an on/off switch and was not so loud. The videos that I did see were of the older models and the noise really had me concerned, but once I plugged this in, I knew it wasn’t like the other cheaper models.

I’m glad I did — this little powerhouse has been doing a great job since day one. white ottoman.
