I wasn’t going to buy this one because of the price, but you really get what you pay for and this is worth the money. It does make a little noise but not bad.
Tinker with some marinades and buy brisket if you want to dehydrate beef! I have also tried round and flank steak but brisket holds the marinade the best and is the most flavorful!
I used to have a convection dehydrator and would get very uneven drying. This dehydrator is great! It’s a great quality machine and you get a nice starter package with it. I’ll add to this review in a year, but my family has always used this brand, and we’ve always had a good experience with it. There’s a low hum of air, but it’s not disruptive. This is obviously not a product for people who want to do industrial-size batches of drying, but it works very well for me as I love to make my own snacks.
They will lose their crisp unless you vacuum pack them. I purchased the food saver brand based on its reviews & have been happy with my choice. The fan makes a little noise but overall it has worked well for us. I like that it has the temperature adjustment on top and the fan is on the top.
I didn’t even have to adjust the TV’s volume while the dehydrator was running, and we did not have to speak over the hum. An “off” setting for the knob would be nice, but it is not difficult to just unplug the unit.
Very pleased with this purchase and I look forward to dehydrating many more things in the future. I do a lot of backpacking and I was in the market for a dehydrator to make copious amounts of jerky for the trips. I love beef jerky more than anything. I just hate paying the high price to buy it. Next I plan to make some fruit roll-ups in the special tray that came with the dehydrator. I’ve been making strawberry, raspberry, banana, apple and peach roll ups this summer with great success.
The thermostat is a great feature with which you can dial up any temperature you want. Also, having the heating element, fan on the top makes clean up a breeze. My wife and I limit their exposure when we can. An example is a particular fruit snack that did not contain this dye. Please, if your dog loves jerky like mine, don’t buy the stuff in the stores (about 95% of them are made in china), buy this instead, and it will pay for itself in a very short time, and you know what you are giving your dog is safe.
