What You Should Know About The Cutting Board In Your Kitchen
You should always be concerned as to how clean you are keeping your cutting board. The germs and bacteria can be transmitted to food from the board if not properly cleaned after using. When you purchase a new one or are caring for the one you have now there are some important things to consider.
The boards come in a variety of materials so you need a variety of different scouring methods. You can find glass, plastic, acrylic, and different kinds of wood. All of them have to be cleaned properly to avoid illness. Using a different cutting boards for different uses helps to avoid this problem of cross contamination.
It is thought that meat should never be cut on a board. Meat has the highest incidence of tainting your board. Even though you wash it extremely well there is still a chance that there will remain some trace of blood or the raw juice of meat. This can potentially be dangerous. Cut the meat elsewhere and then do not use this surface for anything else unless you use a dishwasher to wash it.
Some of the products you have in your own home that will disinfect and clean are surprising. For a wooden or plastic board occasionally make a paste of baking soda, salt, and water and scrub. Then all you have to do is rinse well using hot water.
We all have hydrogen peroxide in the house and to clean put some on your board for around ten minutes and then rinse off. Then take distilled vinegar and repeat the process. Another cleaner that will help is bleach. Bleach has so many uses but in this case mix water with it. Use it on a wooden board but do not soak the board. Use a paper towel that is damp and just wipe off before you leave it to dry. Another amazing product used full strength is vinegar. It is a very effective disinfectant.
At times you will find that there is a very unpleasant odor that you want to remove. Putting sea salt and rubbing it with a fresh lemon will work. That unpleasant smell disappears and an added benefit is that the salt will remove those ugly stains.
If you like essential oils and you would like to use them to clean the board it is very simple. All you do is mix lavender essential oil with water. Place in a bottle and shake well to mix. Then just spray it on without rinsing afterwards.
Do not be surprised that soap and water work too. Hot water and soap using a brush so that you can get into the nooks will keep it clean and safe. These are only a few of the choices you have to keep your family safe. Some of these can be done once in a while and others on a regular basis. You also want to keep your board looking fresh, clean, and odorless.
These items are easily replaced. They are not a fixture in your kitchen so when you see that your knives have made grooves then toss them out. Buy new ones on a regular basis.
