What Mirror Fits Best Into Your Space?
I’ve known some ladies who never passed a mirror they didn’t fall in ‘love’ with. And, for them, a big, bright beautiful mirror hanging on the wall is one of life’s necessities. This isn’t meant to sound unfair to the ladies… they just seem generally more concerned with appearance.
When adding a mirror to your dcor there are many options. Size, shape, frame color (or no frame) and style all come into play. Some mirrors are designed to hang on walls while others attach to a door. Some are freestanding models that are adjustable to your height. All should be capable of delivering an accurate reflection. Some cost as little as $20 while others can run many thousands of dollars. It’s up to you.
For those living in cramped quarters an over the door mirror is a particularly good option. If you rent an apartment you won’t have to worry about making big holes in the wall to install it and it won’t require much space (unlike the free-standing types).
Door mirrors are typically lightweight and simple to install. They’re also quite inexpensive to buy, making them a good choice for the budget constrained. If installed at the proper height they should also allow you to view your entire reflection, from stem to stern.
If your home has a fireplace you might consider adding an overmantle mirror to not only brighten up the room but also give the illusion of a larger space. Decorating the area above the mantle can sometimes present a challenge. Some will display several pictures in this area or one, larger single picture or portrait.
Numerous configurations exist for mantle mirrors although most often these units will be rectangular in shape. Any and all shapes are available, as mirrors are fairly easy to get custom cut. Triple sectioned mirrors (called the ‘triptych” design) have always been very popular for placement over a mantle.
A freestanding mirror with an adjustable swivel is a good choice in some cases, especially if there’s a good bit of unused space in the area. If you’re living in smaller quarters they’re not so good because they take up space and require you to stand back to admire yourself. For apartment dwellers a door-mounted mirror is often the best choice as it’s easy to install (and remove) and very reasonable in cost.
